Tutorial: How to create a frozen effect in RealFlow

Hi all,

I wanna show you a tutorial to know how to make a frozen effect in RealFlow. You can download a simple scene to try below.

Example scene

The simulation scene can be downloaded from here

The frozen setup scene can be downloaded from here

Hello Luismma, I dont know if i can answer this question here, but i cant find a better place to do it, sorry.

How can I import a mesh with variable nº of vertex to realflow?

    Thanks

    Muchas gracias y disculpa

    1. Hola James,

You can’t import a mesh with variable geometry in RealFlow. In fact, when exporting the geometry, your 3d program will show a warning about is. You can try with a script if you are able to export a sd file sequence and import them by scripting. One per frame. This is valid you are going to use the mesh for fluids but not for dynamics.

  2. Hi, This is a little off topic but I have a quick Hybrido displacement question for you. I am calculating displacemant with my grid fuild sim. When I sim the Grid mesh and have displacement on the grid fuild set to cache. I can see my displacement as the Grid mesh sims in the viewport but after the sim is done and when I go back to the cache frames the displacement diappears. Can I only view my cached displacement in other 3d programs or do I have to actually build the displacment in to the mesh to see it.

    Thanks,
    Eric

    1. Hi Eric,

So, do you have the “Shader>Shader type>Use displacement” activated for the GridMesh, don’t you?. Check if you have “Calculate displacement” to Never, Always or Use cache as well.

      1. Yes, I have shader use displacement on and my calculate displacement to use cache. can it only be viewed at build time? should I be able to see the displacement going over my mesh at any cache frame

      2. Hi Eric,

No, it should be visible once you have simulated the displacement, not only in simulation time. Try to put the displacement to “Always” and the GridFluidDomain to cache. The GridMesh shader should be in Displacement as well, as you say you have.

      3. Yes I have use displacement turned on and my calculate displacement is set to use cache. Should I be able to see my displacement on my mesh on any cache frame and be able to do a playblast of it so I can see how it moves over the mesh or can I only see it per frame after building the mesh?

      4. Hi Eric,

Let me know if putting the displacement to Always fix the problem. I’ve noted that Use cache is generating some bad behavior. Then, put the shader for the Grid Mesh to use displacement.

  3. Still not working I think it might be my drivers or something? Only displays the displacement at build time for me. Yes, I have notice if I have use cache on and try to reset my timeline realflow crashes. I will try this on another machine to see if its any better. I can simulate the mesh and export a image sequence at the same time to see my displacement for now. Thanks for all your help so far.

    1. Mmnnn. It is weird. Are you working in remote desktop? It is not working for it due the remote desktop doesn’t work with the drivers properly.
